The way you think is of paramount importance in your life as your mind has control over your body. You can think yourself ill or you can think yourself well and healthy. Your mind is always active. It is always thinking. When we have a thought about ourselves, it quickly passes through to our emotions, and from the emotions it moves into the body. This happens in seconds. If your mind wants to express something unpleasant, your voice is quickly programmed and also your body language. When we have a worrying thought it quickly leads to the emotions of anxiety and fear. This upsets the nervous system and leads to tension within the body.


 

Your mind builds up patterns over time. It needs repetition to learn something thoroughly. Therefore, when making changes to your mind's outdated patterns or old programmes, you will need to persevere and be persistent. Changes to mind patterns (thinking) take time. Just as a young child learns to speak by repetition of sounds, new lessons need repetition for them to sink in. With each essence you will find a self process, and also an affirmation and this needs to be read several times a day for the new thoughts to make a deep enough impression to create change.


 

When we are born, we start interacting and imprinting knowledge about our world. Our mind gains information rapidly as we try to get some understanding of the world that we find ourselves in. By the time we reach the end of our teenage years our mind has become overburdened with many patterns and programmes that we needed as children, but don't need as adults. As adults, we need to take responsibility and weed out those outdated patterns that no longer serve us. Childhood patterns live on in our subconscious mind and tend to erupt into our life when something triggers them. We do not always wish this to happen, but the speed with which it happens is often beyond our control. Temper tantrums would be an example of this. Effective in childhood for getting what we want, but as adults, it might be better to use negotiation or a gentler means of persuasion.


 

We form mind impressions about everything that happens to us. Our mind, which contains our memory, collects sensory patterns from our daily life and records them. Whatever we see, smell, touch, taste and feel is recorded within our mind. We file away our sensory reactions to life continually. This builds up our reason. For example, as a child we touch something hot, we get burnt, the message goes to the mind, this is not a good idea! Sometimes we build up patterns that have become rigid over time. We insist on doing a thing this way and no other way will do. The Ganesh essence in particular will help here. Many of the essences will help you to initiate a more positive relationship with yourself and the world that you live in.

Mind and heart need to be in harmony. If the heart is closed the mind reigns supreme and without the love of the heart becomes dry and rigid, self-seeking and arrogant. Without the heart being active, the mind can make harsh decisions.


 

Your mind seems to be all-powerful, but it is beyond the mind that you must look for the true you. Your mind is a gatherer of thoughts and programs over this lifetime. The problem is that we begin to think that we are this physical personality, with a particular mindset, emotions, and characteristics. Yet, beyond the clouds of our lower mind is our higher self or soul. It is like the sun. In order to see this sun and to allow its rays of knowledge and wisdom to shine upon us, the mind which is too full of chatter, criticisms, judgments, confusion, self deceit, hatred, and pride must be purified. For the higher self to be accessed, clouded ways of thinking must be cleared and a connecting pathway opened up. If we practise positive thinking, helpfulness, caring and loving thoughts, our higher self will be more easily accessed. When the higher self is consciously contacted, everything comes into a much clearer focus. The sun comes shining through. It is like a light being switched on.

 

Mind comes into its own when it starts to see the false impressions that it has gathered. It is then that the real journey starts, and it is the mind that must lead the way. It must seek, if it is to find that which is deeply embedded within the heart. This takes the shape of an adventure to seek the buried treasure. En- route, past values will be discarded and new and interesting vistas will come into view. As soon as this journey begins, the soul is actively leading the way. All sorts of coincidental happenings occur, appropriate books, and people are strewn across our path. In this way, we begin to make spiritual progress and the higher self begins to come into view.
