Anxiety from a spiritual perspective is when your mind is set in a pattern of mild obsessiveness about materialness and worldly events. You loose the trust in life that it will unfold as it should, for good or bad. On the surface we believe that by not having anxiety about an event, the item or event we are having anxiety about would be let go of and forgotten about. We generally believe the event will not work as it should without the anxiety. We must release our attachment from this object/person/event, and trust that life will unfold in it’s own manner. Anxiety does not help the situation and by constantly reinforcing and having anxiety about the negative outcome, we can only exacerbate the problem. Acknowledging the problem of anxiety is the first step together with realising that there is a solution. The next step is to break out of the pattern of anxiety.
To break the anxiety pattern is a two stage process. First you must begin to connect with your higher self, or inner spirit, (soul, heart or god). This is a feeling of connection and trust with the life of the spirit which guides all of life rather than the material life. We must trust that life will go it’s own way no matter how much we worry and become anxious.
The second stage is constant discernment. Anxiety and worry are emotions and a patterns of the mind not of the spirit. You will find that anxiety has to attach itself to a material event or happening to gain it’s strength over you, usually something that you fear. This differs from person to person, what ever you are susceptible to, your individual weakness or obsession. Begin to notice that the anxiety you feel is the same patter re exerting itself even when the event is different.
This is particularly easy to notice when you are anxious about something minor. You can then find it easy to persuade yourself that the anxiety is unnecessary as the problem is small. By separating the anxiety from the event at this easy level you can then move onto bigger events which you fear more. Anxiety is one of the greatest obstacles to connecting with your inner soul or spiritual; strength and requires constant discernment for at least a year to turn the tide.
